Privacy Policy

Effective July 30, 2026

Free? helps friends share selected availability, find useful group overlaps, and make plans. This policy explains what information we process, why we process it, and the choices available to you.

1. Information we collect

Account and profile information

We may collect your name, username, email address, phone number, profile image, authentication identifiers, interests, notification preferences, Quiet Hours, and support communications. Authentication providers such as Apple or Google may provide identifiers and basic profile information according to the permissions you approve.

Availability, chats, and plans

We process the availability you create, recurrence rules and exceptions, contact-level sharing settings, saved Free? chats and participants, overlap results, invitations, polls, votes, RSVPs, plans, locations, reminder settings, booked-time holds, and related activity needed to provide the service.

Contacts and matching

Contact access is optional and requires device permission. Free? uses approved contacts to show familiar names and photos on your device, identify which contacts use Free?, and help you invite others. Phone numbers used for matching are normalized and cryptographically hashed before upload. Contact names and photos may remain on your device unless you choose an app feature that requires them to be shared. Free? does not read the contents of your private messages.

Device, security, and diagnostic information

We may process device and app version, operating system, push-notification token, approximate network information, request metadata, security events, crash information, and audit logs. We use this information to operate the app, deliver notifications, diagnose errors, prevent abuse, and protect accounts.

Analytics and advertising

Free? may use PostHog to measure privacy-limited product events such as feature use and app performance. Our configuration is designed not to capture private message content, contact lists, availability details, plan details, precise location, or session recordings. We may use Google AdMob to display ads in designated parts of the app. Depending on your device, region, and consent choices, Google may process advertising identifiers, device information, IP-derived location, ad interactions, and consent signals. You can review advertising and analytics choices through the privacy controls available in the app and your device settings.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

3. Availability and sharing

Your availability is disclosed according to the contact-level setting you choose: Share All Free Times, Share Certain Times, or Sharing Off. Revoking access prevents future authorized retrieval. Confirmed plans hold only the applicable occurrence; booking one occurrence of a recurring free time does not book the entire series.

4. When information is shared

We share information only as needed to provide the service, follow your directions, protect the service, or comply with law. This may include:

We do not sell private message content, contact lists, availability, or plan details. Free? does not read or import message history from iMessage, WhatsApp, Messenger, Snapchat, or Google Messages.

5. Device permissions and third-party apps

Contacts, notifications, calendars, and location or maps features require the relevant device permission or an explicit action. If you accept a plan and enable calendar access, Free? can add or update that plan in your device calendar; your calendar provider then processes the event under its own policy. Messaging and map applications also operate under their own terms and privacy policies. You can change permissions in device settings, although some features may stop working.

6. Retention and deletion

We retain information while your account is active and as reasonably necessary to provide and secure Free?. Retention varies by data type and may continue for limited periods for fraud prevention, security logging, dispute resolution, legal compliance, and backup recovery. When no longer needed, information is deleted or de-identified.

You can delete your account in the Profile tab. Account deletion triggers server-side deletion of account-owned data, subject to limited legal, security, and backup-retention exceptions. If you cannot access the app, follow the instructions on our Support page.

7. Your choices and rights

You can edit profile details and interests, change sharing rules, revoke selected availability, change notification and reminder settings, set Quiet Hours, disconnect device permissions, opt out of supported analytics or advertising choices, sign out, or delete your account. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or receive a copy of personal information, or object to certain processing. Contact us to make a request. We may verify your identity before completing it.

Free? does not knowingly sell personal information for money. Where applicable law treats personalized advertising as a sale or sharing, use the in-app privacy choices or contact us to opt out.

8. Security

We use encrypted network connections, hashed contact matching, restricted service credentials, database row-level security, authorization checks, rate limits, input validation, audit logging, and other safeguards designed to protect information. Service providers are selected and configured to support appropriate security and confidentiality. No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.

9. International processing

Free? and its service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, we use contractual or other lawful safeguards for international transfers.

10. Children

Free? is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Additional age requirements may apply where you live. If you believe a child provided information contrary to applicable law, contact us so we can review and remove it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Free? evolves. We will post the revised policy here, update the effective date, and provide additional notice when required by law.
